What We Do...

We believe art can be a bridge between worlds, across generations, communities, and borders. We are committed to making that bridge accessible to every child.

Afterschool Art Program: 12-Week Workshop at River Arts in Morrisville, VT

Target Age: Grades 3–7

This flagship 12-week program integrates visual arts, music, storytelling, and global awareness through the lens of children’s rights. Students explore cultural identity, freedom of expression, emotional well-being, and advocacy while learning technical and expressive art skills. Students will also connect with children at a sister school in Malawi, exchanging artwork and reflections, participating in a collaborative video project where they discuss their countries, their lives and what children's rights means to them, along with presenting their artwork.

Each week focuses on specific rights through:

  • Art mediums: collage, clay, paint, mixed media

  • Themes: education, family, freedom from discrimination, language, expression, environment, and protection

  • Final Project: Collaborative mural and community art show

  • Outcome: Builds empathy, confidence, and critical thinking through creative collaboration

This program serves as a pilot for our international initiative, Art Across Borders (See Below).

Art & Advocacy Partnerships

We collaborate with organizations working in human rights and social justice (e.g., CASAN for asylum seekers) to:

  • Host art workshops that give voice to marginalized communities

  • Create mobile or permanent murals for awareness campaigns

  • Engage people in art-based advocacy and public presentations

These pop-up or ongoing collaborations extend the mission of Patchwork Planet into the heart of activism.

Custom Workshops & School Residencies

Patchwork Planet designs shorter or customized in-school or afterschool residencies aligned with:

  • Specific children’s rights (language, play, freedom of thought)

  • Social-emotional learning and restorative practices

  • Community storytelling and cultural heritage

These workshops can be tailored to classrooms, homeschool groups, or community centers.

Art Across Borders

This project is part of our Art Across Borders initiative, an international, collaborative project connecting youth across countries through art and storytelling. Each mural and piece of creative work will be documented and shared with our partners abroad building bridges of empathy and solidarity across continents. This series brings together children from different countries to co-create art centered on children’s rights and global justice. Projects may involve:

  • Joint mural-making across sister schools (e.g., Malawi & Vermont)

  • Storytelling and video art exchanges

  • Shared workshops hosted virtually and locally

  • Advocacy artwork tied to real-world issues like access to clean water, the right to seek asylum, or the right to education

This is our core international offering, designed to foster cross-cultural empathy and solidarity among young artists.
